The solar thermal panels capture the sun's energy and heat the water useful for sanitary use and for the integration of the heating of buildings.

The principle is very simple!

Solar thermal systems capture the energy radiated by the sun and heat the water present in a tank that is connected to the building's water system.

The most common systems are:

  • with natural circulation;
  • forced circulation.

The natural circulation system is the simplest and is composed of one or more thermal solar panels that directly heat the water, which due to the phenomenon of the convection rises in a higher placed tank, where it is stored. The tank is specially insulated to limit heat loss with the outside. This system does not require electrical connections as the phenomenon occurs naturally.

The forced circulation system, on the other hand, is more complex, it is composed of one or more solar thermal systems that contain a vector liquid that heats up and then transmits this heat to the water placed in a separate tank. The system must include a pump or circulator for the liquid, an expansion tank, a temperature control and other components. This system involves a minimum of electrical absorption by the pump which forces the circulation of the liquid, but has a better performance as the tank is placed in a protected place with consequent lower thermal dispersion.

INSTALLATION

The solar thermal panel also called solar collector, consisting of one or more elements, is usually located on the roof of the building and must preferably be exposed to the south.

The solar panels are fixed by means of special supports that allow them to be installed both on flat roofs (terraces) and on already sloping roofs.

The collection tanks can be of:

  • 150 liters indicatively suitable for the daily requests of 3 people;
  • 200 liters indicatively suitable for the daily requests of 4 people;
  • 300 liters indicatively suitable for daily requests for 5/6 people.
